Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Broken wheat/ daliya/fada- 1 cup
  2. clarified butter/ghee- 1/2 cup *
  3. cloves/lavang- 3
  4. Green cardamom /elaichi -4
  5. Cinnamon stick/daalchini -1/3 inch
  6. sugar/chini -1 cup
  7. saffron /kesar- few strands
  8. Milk /dudh- 2 tsp
  9. water/paani -3 and 1/2 cups
  10. almonds /badam -12
  11. raisins /kishmish- 3 tbsp
  12. cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp


  1. Heat ghee in a heavy bottom pan. Add cloves, cardamom (crush lightly to open it up) and cinnamon.
  2. Add daliya and roast on a low heat till it becomes pink and starts giving a nice aroma.
  3. Now add the raisins and chopped almonds and just give a stir.
  4. Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles or cook till its done.
  5. In a separate pan, add sugar and water and cook till the sugar melts.
  6. Soak saffron in 2 tsp of milk and crush in a mortar and pestle.
  7. Once the cooker cools down completely, then you can open it. Add sugar, water, and mix it. Now give it a boil and then simmer on low heat, till it almost drys up.
  8. Now add cardamom powder, saffron and mix it well.
  9. Serve it hot garnished with pista and almond slices.
