Ingredients to make steamed rose buns

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4-5 drops of pink food colour

How to make steamed rose buns

  1. whisk together flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a bowl
  2. add milk and knead into a soft, non sticky dough about 10 minutes
  3. the dough should become soft, smooth and elastic
  4. place the dough in an oiled mixing bowl and cover with a kitchen towl
  5. proof in a warm place until volume is doubled, about 1 hour
  6. now punch the dough and add food colour
  7. mix and knead again for 3-4 minutes
  8. now divide the dough into 18 equal portions
  9. to shape into rose, take 6 dough portions and roll each into a thin circle, if required use some dry flour to roll
  10. place these prepared circles so that they overlap
  11. then roll into a log
  12. cut into two to form two roses
  13. make all the roses in the same way and arrange in a greased baking tin
  14. prepare a steamer and steam the buns for 15 minutes on high flame
  15. remove the lid and take the buns out from the steamer
  16. serve hot
