Paneer lemon rice is a rice delicacy in which rice is cooked with paneer and lemon juice. This Paneer lemon rice is a one of the famous dish of South Indian cuisine and an excellent meal to serve for the unexpected guests. This tangy lemon rice is liked by everyone and people of different region prepare it differently according to their taste. Paneer lemon rice is a delicious and mouthwatering dish which you can find in almost every restaurant. It is very simple and easy to cook, ready in less time as compared to other rice delicacy. Paneer lemon rice is tasty as well as healthy because paneer is rich in protein and calcium. This Paneer lemon rice is inherited by plain lemon rice. It is not only a famous South Indian rice recipe but also very popular in all over the India. It is a delicious, aromatic rice recipe that can be made with less time and make with basmati rice or any other ordinary rice. Paneer lemon rice is normally served with rasam and spicy potato fries. It is a lip smacking dish which you can have in your lunch or dinner. By the help of this recipe you can easily know how to make Paneer lemon rice.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 cups - Cooked rice
  2. 1 cup - paneer cubes
  3. 1/4 cup - lemon juice
  4. 1 teaspoon - mustard seeds
  5. 1 teaspoon - Urad dal
  6. 1 teaspoon - Channa dal
  7. 2 green chillies (slit opened)
  8. 3 Dry red chillies
  9. Few cashews
  10. 1 teaspoon - ginger (grated)
  11. 1/4 teaspoon - asafoetida powder
  12. Few curry leaves
  13. 1/4 teaspoon - turmeric powder
  14. oil as required
  15. salt to taste


  1. Take a pan and heat enough oil in it, fry the ingredients, mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, dry red chillies with a dash of the asafoetida powder.
  2. Next put in the cashews and fry till they turn brown in colour.
  3. Take a separate kadai, heat a little oil and roast the paneer cubes in it. Once they are done, keep it aside.
  4. Put in the ingredients, green chillies, grated ginger into the pan and sauté this mixture for a few seconds.
  5. Also add in the turmeric powder, salt and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. In the meantime, take the cooked rice then add the lemon juice and pan roasted paneer cubes into it, gently toss it so that the rice combines well with these ingredients.
  7. In the end add the tempered spice mixture to the lemon rice.
  8. Again softly mix the spice mixture into the lemon rice, the rice should appear coated with the spices and paneer cubes.
  9. Serve the dish piping hot with a side of spicy potato fries.

Wow! The addition of paneer is something new! Definitely gonna try! Can meat also replace the paneer cubes?
