ABOUT Haleem RECIPE

Its a traditional Hyderabadi dish to relish on.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chicken or Mutton - 1/2kg (Boiled and shredded)
  2. Ginger garlic paste- 2 Tbsps
  3. Green chillies - 4 to 5 or as per taste
  4. Tamarind- Lemon sized ball ( Soaked)
  5. Pepper powder- 2 Tsp
  6. Broken wheat or lapsi- 1/4 kg (Soaked at least for 2 hours)
  7. Rice- 1/2 cup (Soaked for 1/2 an hour)
  8. Moong Dal- 1/2 cup (Soaked for 1/2 an hour)
  9. Fried onions (Birista)- For garnishing
  10. Garam Masala Powder- 1Tsp
  11. Chicken cubes(Indian) - 6 to 7
  12. Turmeric Powder- 1/2Tsp
  13. Oil 3 to 4 Tbsps
  14. Coriander- Chopped (For garnishing)
  15. Mint leaves (For garnishing)
  16. Cashews- Handfull fried (For garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook wheat or lapsi with water on high flame till 2 whistles and then cook it on low flame for 10 minutes.
  2. Pressure cook rice and Moong Dal together with water on high flame till 1 whistle and then cook it on low flame for 5 minutes.
  3. Allow the cooked wheat rice and Dal to cool.
  4. Till then grind ginger garlic paste , green chillies and tamarind to a fine paste.
  5. Take oil in a pan, add the grounded Masala to it and roast it well on medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes.
  6. Now add turmeric Powder, Pepper powder and garam Masala Powder to it and mix it well. Add 1/2tsp of salt and 2 chicken cubes to it and roast it nicely till oil starts leaving from sides. Switch off the flame.
  7. Grind the cooked wheat in a smooth paste and remove it in a heavy bottomed vessel.
  8. Similarly grind the rice and Dal in a smooth paste and mix it with the wheat paste.
  9. Mix it really well. Put it on flame and add the prepared Masala and chicken cubes to it. Check for salt and garam Masala. Once it starts boiling add shredded chicken to it and mix. Remove it from flame.
  10. Take a bowl remove haleem in it and garnish it with Birista, fried cashews, coriander, mint leaves and lemon.
  11. Your delicious haleem is ready to it.
