This is a popular tradition dish among the Konkanis, a dry and delicious dish which is spicy and flavorsome. The fresh blended spices lifts this dish a level up.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw-Jackfruit cubes - 4 cup
  2. turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  3. coriander seeds- 2 tbsp
  4. Urad Daal  - 1 tbsp 
  5. Dry red chillies - 5
  6. jaggery powder - 1 tbsp (more if you want )
  7. Fresh grated coconut - 1 and 1/2 cup
  8. tamarind pulp - 1 tbsp
  9. Black mustard seeds - 2 tsp
  10. Cooking oil - 2 tbsp
  11. Curry Leaves 2 tbsp
  12. salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the jack-fruit in a cup of water with turmeric powder until they are soft and tender. Don't overcook.
  2. Cool it and mash each cube a little with your finger or with the back side of the spoon.
  3. Dry roast the coriander seeds, urad daal and dry chilies. Cool it a bit and blend it with coconut,tamarind, jaggery. Make a fine dry paste.
  4. In a pan, heat oil, add the mustard seeds and let it sputter. Add the curry leaves and the fresh blended masala paste to it. Cook it for 2 minutes at a medium flame.
  5. Add the jack-fruit, salt and saute it for 5 minutes. Cook it for 8-10 minutes. Keep stirring while it cooks.
  6. Sprinkle a little water if it sticks to the bottom of pan. Once done, serve it hot.
