ROTI JALA is a traditional and easy to make quick recipe from Malaysia. It is usully served with chicken gravy... In our place we have this compulsorily during EID with chicken gravy and vattilappam (Egg pudding)..

ROTI JALA (Malaysian net crepes)

Ingredients to make ROTI JALA (Malaysian net crepes)

  • all purpose flour 150gms
  • water 150 ml
  • coconut milk 150 ml
  • salt 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1 /2 tsp
  • oil 2tsp
  • eggs 2

How to make ROTI JALA (Malaysian net crepes)

  1. Take all purpose flour in a bowl
  2. Add turmeric powder and salt to it and mix well
  3. Add water to it and stirr well
  4. Now add the coconut milk
  5. Stirr well to avoid lumps and then add eggs to it.
  6. Finally add some oil and mix the batter very well
  7. Now strain the batter to get rid of lumps if any
  8. Pour it into the bottle. Make 3 holes in the cap. You can use the mould available especially for roti jala.
  9. Now is the interesting part. Brush the pan with some oil. Start pouring the batter in circular motions. Please note that it should be little closer to each other, not very far away. Cook in low or medium flame.
  10. Flip the roti jala and cook both sides. Finally serve it with chicken gravy.
  11. Here we also use Vattilappam to match this.
