ABOUT Mushroom Masala RECIPE

This is a very Indian way of making Mushrooms in a Onion & Tomato gravy where the Mushrooms are sautéed for a long time in the gravy to let them soak in all the juices to becomes this delectable dish which goes perfectly well with hot rotis or naan.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 200 Gms Button mushrooms
  2. 2 onions finely chopped
  3. 3 tomatoes
  4. 1 Green chilli. finely chopped
  5. 1 tsp ginger paste
  6. 1 tsp garlic paste
  7. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  8. 2 cardamoms
  9. 3 cloves
  10. 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  11. 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  12. 1/2 cup Fresh cream
  13. 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  14. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  15. 1 tsp cumin powder
  16. Fresh coriander for garnishing
  17. salt to taste


  1. Blanch tomatoes in hot water and then puree. Wash and slice the mushrooms keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a round bottomed pan, add the cumin seeds, cardamom, cloves & cinnamon Stick.
  3. Add the onions, ginger, garlic paste, green chilli and let them cook on a medium flame till the onions are translucent.
  4. Add the tomato puree, cover and let it cook till the oil starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  5. Now add the mushrooms and all the dry masalas and cook over a medium flame for 10 – 15 minutes.
  6. Add the green peas and 1 -2 tsp of fresh cream, 1/2 cup water, mix well and cook over a medium flame.
  7. Once cooked garnish with chopped coriander and fresh cream before you serve with hot rotis.
