About SMÖRGÅSTÅRTA- Swedish sandwich cake Recipe

This is a savoury sandwich cake from Sweden. This cake comprises of layers of bread and cream cheese filling with vegetables or tuna. This is a whole meal in itself.

Ingredients to make SMÖRGÅSTÅRTA- Swedish sandwich cake

  • 8 slices of bread. I’ve used wheolemeal bread.
  • Choices of vegetables : 1 cucumber, 1 carrot, 2 little radishes, 4-5 baby plum tomatoes, 4-5 olives
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • avocado, pomegranate for garnishing— completely optional

How to make SMÖRGÅSTÅRTA- Swedish sandwich cake

  1. 1. In a serving dish lay two slices of bread.Spreas some cream cheese on top to over bread.
  2. 2. Spread some cut vegetables of choice.
  3. 3. Put two more slices of bread on top and later cream cheese followed by vegetables. Repeat with all slices of bread.
  4. 4. Cover the sandwiched cake with cream cheese and garnish or decorate with some more vegetables.
  5. 4. Chill in th refrigerator for 1/2-1 hour and serve.

My Tip:

One can even use canned tuna fish or cooked chicken or boiled eggs. Traditionally the rye bread is used but one can substitute it with brown or white bread as well.
