ABOUT Aloo parathas RECIPE

A simple , filling , healthy breakfast dish for kids. I pack this softy flaky mess free aloo parathas to my daughter who is a preschooler . Perfect for breakfast / brunch . Provides energy for the busy day . Adding ghee to these aloo parathas , increases their flavour , flakiness and taste . Children love eating aloo parathas .

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Whole wheat flour 2 cups
  2. Salt as taste .
  3. Ghee / clarified butter 3-4 tablespoons
  4. Warm water 1 cup approximately
  5. One big sized potato , washed , skin removed , boiled and mashed
  6. One medium sized onion finely chopped
  7. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  8. Garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  9. Chaat masala 1/4 teaspoon
  10. Green chillies 2 finely chopped ( avoid for kids )

Instructions

  1. In a bowl , take 2 cups whole wheat flour . Add 1/4 teaspoon salt , 1 tablespoon ghee .
  2. Knead all together into a soft non-sticky dough by gradually adding warm water.Cover for 20 minutes
  3. In a pan , heat a tablespoon ghee . Crackle 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds .
  4. Add one medium sized finely chopped onion.Sauté till translucent.
  5. Add one big sized boiled mashed potato and sauté for another 3 minutes . Add salt .
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala , 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala.Mix the potato onion mixture for 2mins.
  7. Remove from the heat. Cool the mixture .After 20 minutes , make medium sized balls ought of dough.
  8. Roll into a medium thick rotis . Place a tablespoon of potato filling at the centre of the roti.
  9. Close the ends to make a big sized ball .Use extra dough if needed to completely cover the filling.
  10. Gently roll this ball with filling into a medium thickness paratha without squeezing out filling .
  11. Heat a pan .Fry this aloo paratha.Flip the sides .Add ghee . Fry till light brown spots appear.
  12. Similarly fry the rest.Spread ghee over the parathas.Serve hot .Soft,flaky Aloo parathas are ready.
