About Rajma - Chawal Recipe

Punjabi Comfort Meal. REd Kidney beans cooked in onion tomato curry base with aromatic spices and served with Rice.

Rajma - Chawal

Ingredients to make Rajma - Chawal

  • 1 Big Cup of rajma (Red Kideny Beans) Soaked overnight and then pressure cooked .
  • 2 onions Grated
  • 2 tomatoes Pureed
  • 1-1 / 2 Tablespoons ginger + Garlic paste
  • 2-3 Tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 Teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1-1 / 2 Teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 Teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1-1 / 2 Tablespoons readymade rajma masala powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam masala
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 Green cardamoms
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 Teaspoon Kasuri methi
  • 2 Green Chilies slit and de-seeded
  • Fresh coriander Leaves finely chopped
  • salt as per taste

How to make Rajma - Chawal

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves, cardamom and cinnamon stick.
  2. Saute for a while and then add Ginger + Garlic paste.
  3. Saute well until raw smell goes off.
  4. Now add grated onions and saute till onions become soft & golden-brown in color.
  5. Add Kashmiri red chili powder, Coriander powder, Cumin powder, Rajma - Masala,  Garam- masala and salt into it.
  6. Mix well and saute till oil starts leaving sides of pan.
  7. Now add 2-3 tspn of yogurt and give it a quick mix.
  8. Add Tomato puree and mix well.
  9. Add cooked Rajma beans and enough water.
  10. Cover and cook for about 7-8 minutes.
  11. Crush some kasoori methi on your palm and add in gravy.
  12. Bring to a boil and add slit green chilies and coriander leaves.
  13. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  14. Serve with jeera rice, Roti, Naan or paratha.
