About Aloo chop Recipe

This is one of the most famous street food, popular in kolkata. A lipsmacking snack made with a spicy potato filling, coated in besam batter and deep fried.

Ingredients to make Aloo chop

  • For the stuffing :
  • Mashed and boiled potatoes - 2
  • Chopped garlic - 1 tsp
  • Chopped ginger - 1 tsp
  • green chillies (chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Roasted cumin and coriander seeds powder - 2 tbsp
  • turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • salt
  • oil
  • Outer coating :
  • besan - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/2 cup
  • salt
  • Soda bi carbonate - 1/8 th tsp
  • chilly powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • oil (for frying)

How to make Aloo chop

  1. To make the filling, heat some oil in a pan, add chopped garlic, ginger and chillies. Once they smell, add turmeric powder and salt.
  2. Now add the mashed potatoes, give a good mix. Add the roasted cumin and coriander seeds powder.
  3. Cook until the masala is done and dry. Cool it.
  4. Mix the ingredients mentioned under "outer coating", and some water to make a smooth batter.
  5. Now heat ample amount of oil in a kadhai. Shape the potato fìlling into thin patties, dip them in the batter and deep fry them. Serve.
