ABOUT Xacuti Chicken RECIPE

Xacuti(pronounced “Sha-kuti”) is a classic goan chicken dish. Xacuti Chicken is a rich chicken curry loaded with coconut and fiery green & red chilies.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the green Masala- 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  2. 10 Garlic Cloves(roughly chopped)
  3. 2 green chilli’s(roughly chopped)
  4. 1 inch ginger piece
  5. 1 tsp salt
  6. For Xacuti Masala- 1 & 1/2 Onion sliced
  7. 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
  8. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  9. 10 cloves
  10. 2 inch cinnamon stick
  11. A pinch of nutmeg
  12. 2 green cardamom
  13. 1 tsp black peppercorns
  14. 1/2 tsp white poppy seeds
  15. 1/4 start anise
  16. 1 tsp coriander seeds
  17. 5 dry Kashmiri red chillies
  18. You will also need- 1/2 kg chicken(smaller pieces)
  19. 1 onion sliced
  20. 2 green chillies
  21. 5 garlic cloves
  22. 10 fresh curry leaves
  23. 4 tbsp coriander leaves
  24. Oil as required

Instructions

  1. Grind the green masala and marinade the chicken for 15 mins.
  2. In a pan add 2 tbsp and roast onions and coconut. Fry until onions are brown and then add coconut.(Use onions and coconut under ingredients for xacuti masala)
  3. Dry roast the remaining ingredients under xacuti masala except turmeric. Cool completely.
  4. Grind into a fine paste both onions, coconut and the dry roasted masala.
  5. In a new pan add around 3 tbsp of oil and fry onions along with slit green chilli and curry leaves until the onions are soft.
  6. Add the marinated chicken and cook covered for 10 mins.
  7. Now add xacuti masala paste and cook for another 2 mins.
  8. Then add about 1 & 1/2 cup water. Cover and cook until chicken is cooked.
  9. Add coriander leaves for garnish.
  10. Serve hot. Enjoy!
