About Chicken Stew. Recipe

A traditional Kerala dish . Can be made with mutton & beef also. Usually taken with aapam, idly,dosa, or even rice.

Chicken Stew.

Ingredients to make Chicken Stew.

  • chicken 250g, cut into small pieces.
  • water 1 to 11/2 cups
  • Thick coconut milk 2 Cups
  • Thin coconut milk 2 cups.
  • Small onion chopped 2 cups
  • ginger paste 1tsp
  • garlic paste. 1tsp
  • coriander powder 4 tsp
  • White pepper powder 3 tbsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • onion sliced 1
  • green chillies 6 .
  • curry leaves
  • salt
  • coconut oil

How to make Chicken Stew.

  1. Heat a big kadai with 2 tbsp of oil. Add chopped ginger & garlic paste. Fry well.
  2. Then add small onion & curry leaves. Fry till done.
  3. Add chicken pieces along with coriander powder , pepper , garam masala & salt. Stir well for 1 min.
  4. Add water. Cover cook on medium flame till almost done. Open the lid & add thin Coconut milk , sliced onion & green chillies. Stir well.
  5. Adjust seasoning, coriander powder, garam Masala, pepper. Add if needed. Cover & cook.
  6. When onions r cooked, & gravy is very thick, ,open & add thick Coconut milk. Stir well.
  7. When the gravy is thick & chicken s well cooked, remove. Add 1 or 2 tbsp of coconut oil & a little more curry leaves.
  8. Serve hot .

My Tip:

Thick Coconut milk is the 1st milk we take after grinding. Thin is the 2nd & 3 rd milk.chicken s cooking time depends.
