Ingredients to make Vrat ka Dhokla (Navratri Special)

  • For the Dhokla:
  • 1 cup Samo ke chawal (Barnyard millet or Bhagar)
  • 3 cup butter milk
  • 1 tbsp chilli ginger paste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Eno powder
  • Salt to taste (white rock salt)
  • For tempering:
  • 1-2 dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seed
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3-4 Green chillies cut lenth wise

How to make Vrat ka Dhokla (Navratri Special)

  1. Soak samo chawal in buttermilk for half an hour. Blend the soaked samo chawal in a blender till smooth.
  2. Add all other ingredients to the batter, mix well and pour into a greased plate or steaming vessel and steam for 15 minutes.
  3. Let it cool completely. Cut in desired shapes.
  4. For the tempering: Heat oil in a pan and add all the ingredients and pour it over the steamed dhokla.
  5. Serve hot with your favorite chutney.
