About Hyderabadi Chicken Dalcha Recipe

This is chicken gravy cooked with lentil and vegetable

Hyderabadi Chicken Dalcha

Ingredients to make Hyderabadi Chicken Dalcha

  • 1/2 kg chicken
  • 1 small bottle gourd(lauki) ( cut into pieces)
  • 100 gm soaked Bengal gram (chana dal)
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind(Imli) pulp
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • 2 Chopped tomatoes
  • 2 split green chilies
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 green cardamoms
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilly powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon dhaniya powder
  • salt to taste
  • For Tadka
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 Tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder

How to make Hyderabadi Chicken Dalcha

  1. In a pressure cooker add Bengal gram, turmeric powder, salt and 3/4 cup of water and pressure cook until the dal cooked well.
  2. Once dal is cooked, mash the dal add tamarind pulp mix it well check if salt is required and keep it aside.
  3. Now in a pressure cooker add pieces of bottle gourd(lauki) add 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles
  4. Now mix cooked bottle gourd(lauki) pieces with mashed dal mixture
  5. Heat oil in a pot add cloves, green cardamoms, cinnamon stick and bay leaf cook it for some time
  6. Then add onion and saute it for few minutes add green chilies, ginger garlic paste and saute for few minutes.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, dhaniya powder, salt and fry well.
  8. Now add chicken and cook it for few minutes and then add mixture of mashed dal and bottle gourd(lauki) mix well add some water and cook for 10 minutes
  9. Now for giving tadka heat ghee in small pan and add cumin seeds fry till the cumin seed crackles then add curry leaves, garlic and chili powder
  10. Serve it hot with rice and enjoy this yummy and tasty dish
