Ingredients to make Beetroot prawns

  • Prawns cleaned , deveined and pat- dried 500 grams
  • Medium sized Beetroot 1 finely grated tomato mushy juicy texture .
  • Sesame oil 3 tablespoons
  • onion big sized finely chopped 1
  • turmeric powder 3/4 teaspoon
  • ginger garlic paste 3/4 teaspoon
  • garlic pods 5 sliced / crushed .
  • fennel powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • Kashmiri chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon
  • curry leaves a sprig
  • salt to taste
  • Black pepper powder 1/4 teaspoon for the flavour .

How to make Beetroot prawns

  1. Firstly , marinate prawns with grated Beetroot , turmeric powder , salt , fennel powder for 10 minutes . Better refrigerate .
  2. In a wok , heat sesame oil .
  3. Add curry leaves .
  4. Add ginger garlic paste . Sauté for 15 seconds .
  5. Add crushed garlic and fry for 1/2 minute.
  6. Add chopped onions . Sauté till translucent .
  7. Add the marinated prawns along with beet marination mixture .
  8. Sauté for 2 minutes in oil till Beetroot ‘s raw smell leaves .
  9. Add the remaining dry powders excluding pepper powder .
  10. Don’t add water as prawns and Beetroot ‘s juices will do .
  11. Add water if you need gravy . This is a dry dish . I prefer so .
  12. Cover the wok and cook for 5 minutes in medium heat .
  13. Once the prawns are cooked . Remove the cover .
  14. Cook for 3 minutes under high flame so that extra juices dries off quickly .
  15. Finally add pepper powder . Switch off the flame . Toss quickly .
  16. Beetroot prawns are ready to serve hot .
  17. Goes well with Sambar rice , pulaos .

My Tip:

Adjust the spices according to the sweetness of the Beetroot .
