About Sravu Thala Mulakithathu / Kerala Shark Head gravy Recipe

An easy outclass , juicy , aromatic fish gravy from Kerala . Shark head gives nice flavour and taste to this thick curry / gravy . It’s ginger and garlic based dish . No coconut is included in this recipe.

Sravu Thala Mulakithathu / Kerala Shark Head gravy

Ingredients to make Sravu Thala Mulakithathu / Kerala Shark Head gravy

  • Large sized shark heads 2 de skinned and cleaned .,
  • coconut oil 4 tablespoons
  • mustard seeds 2 teaspoons
  • fenugreek seeds 1 tablespoon
  • ginger finely chopped 2 teaspoons
  • garlic pods finely crushed 12
  • shallots 25 finely chopped.
  • turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder 3 teaspoons
  • Kudam puli / Cambogia 4 pieces
  • salt to taste.,
  • Freshly crushed black pepper powder ( optional ) 1 tablespoon
  • curry leaves 2 sprigs .

How to make Sravu Thala Mulakithathu / Kerala Shark Head gravy

  1. In a mud pot , heat 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  2. Add mustard seeds . Splutter.
  3. Add fenugreek seeds .
  4. Fry Curry leaves .
  5. Add finely chopped ginger .
  6. Add crushed garlic and fry all these to brown colour.
  7. Add chopped shallots . Sauté till light brown .
  8. Add turmeric powder .
  9. Add Kashmiri red chilli powder .
  10. Add salt .
  11. Stir and mix . Fry the masala in oil for 3 minutes . Then add little water .
  12. Cover the pot and cook for 3 minutes .
  13. Add the cambogia pieces .
  14. Add 1/2 cup water
  15. Cover and cook for 2 minutes .
  16. Add the fish heads .
  17. See that they immerse in the gravy .
  18. Cover and cook slowly for 5 to 7 minutes .
  19. Drizzle Little oil while gravy is boiling .
  20. Done . Ready to serve .
