This dish is a authentic bengali receipe where prawns are cooked fully in coconut milk

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawn 500 grams
  2. Coconut milk 1 cup
  3. Salt to tast
  4. Turmeric powder as needed( for marination)
  5. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp for cooking
  6. Onion paste 5 tbsp
  7. Ginger paste 2 tbsp
  8. Garlic paste 1/2 tbsp
  9. 1 tbsp poppy seeds paste
  10. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  11. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  12. 1 bay leaf
  13. 1 inch cinnamon
  14. 1 green elaichi
  15. 2 cloves
  16. Vegetable oil 5 tbsp


  1. First wash all the prawns properly
  2. Then marinate with salt and turmeric powder. Keep aside
  3. Heat 2 tbsp oil in pan and light fry all prawns
  4. Then bring out the prawns from the oil in a bowl
  5. In the same pan add 3 tbsp oil and heat up
  6. Add bay leaf, cinnamon, elaichi, cloves
  7. Then add ginger garlic paste,onion paste and saute for few minutes
  8. Then add salt,1/2 tsp turmeric powder,1/2 tsp coriander powder,1/2 tsp heera powder and saute till becomes the oil from side
  9. Then add poppy seeds paste mix well
  10. Add coconut milk and mix
  11. If need water the add little water ( optional)
  12. Then add prawns
  13. When the gravy is thik then off the flame
  14. Serve with plane rice or pulao
