About Bhaja Muger Dal Recipe

Bhaja Muger Dal is one popular Dal recipe from Bengal . Simple but a delicious , slow cooked , flavourful Dal is purely a comfort food . This is a no onion no garlic version .

Bhaja Muger Dal

Ingredients to make Bhaja Muger Dal

  • moong dal 1 cup
  • water 2 cups
  • ginger paste 1 teaspoon
  • green chillies 4
  • Green peas 1/2 cup
  • carrots chopped 1/4 cup
  • cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Dry coconut pieces 3
  • mustard oil 4 tablespoons
  • ghee 1 tablespoon
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • chilli powder 3/4 teaspoon
  • cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt
  • sugar 1 teaspoon

How to make Bhaja Muger Dal

  1. Wash and drain the moong Dal completely .
  2. In a deep pan , gently roast the dal till it releases aroma , colour gets changed slightly .
  3. Add 2 cups of water to the roasted dal .
  4. Cover the pan and cook till dal gets soft and mushy .
  5. Now add the green peas and chopped carrots to the Dal .
  6. Cover and cook till veggies get done . Remove from the heat.
  7. In a pan , melt ghee , fry green chillies . Transfer it to the Dal .
  8. In the same pan , heat half of the mustard oil .
  9. Add dry coconut pieces , Fry till Brown. Transfer this to the Dal .
  10. Heat the remaining mustard oil in the same pan . Crackle cumin seeds , fry ginger paste , turmeric powder , cumin powder , chilli powder .
  11. Now glacé the Dal by adding this seasoning mixture .
  12. Add salt and sugar.
  13. Mix completely.
  14. Switch on the stove . Cook Dal for another 5 minutes in low heat . Cover the pan and slow cook .
  15. Bhaja Muger Dal is ready .
  16. Serve hot with steamed rice .
