ABOUT Plum Chutney/ Ber Ki Chuntey RECIPE

Indians love chutneys and cooking plum chutney is a great way to consume natural sweetness, the flavour is intensifying which is simple yet very elegant.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 2 cups Red Plums
  2. ĵ cup jiggery/gud
  3. 3-4 Green Chillies finely chopped
  4. ½ inch Ginger peeled and grated
  5. Salt to taste
  6. ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  7. 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  8. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  9. 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  10. 2 tablespoon oil

Instructions

  1. Wash the plums thoroughly and deseed them, then chop them roughly.
  2. Take a pan and heat oil, add in the mustard and cumin seeds. Let this pop and splutter, then lower the heat.
  3. Next add in the chopped green chillies and fennel seeds. Let it cook till the chillies and fennel seeds turn brown in colour. Cover and cook this for 4 minutes or so.
  4. Gently press and squash the plums with the back of the spoon.
  5. Next add in the plums,grated ginger, turmeric and salt into the pan.
  6. Finally add in the jiggery and let it cook till the chutney becomes thick.
  7. Once cooked, keep aside and let it cool.
  8. Serve as a side with idli, dosa, or as a dip with crackers and chips.

This is a simple and great recipe for homemade chutneys, very healthy as well.
