Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For dal ka pakodis:
  2. Moong dal 3/4 cup
  3. Green chillies 2
  4. Ginger paste 1 tsp
  5. Chopped coriander 1 tbsp
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil to fry
  8. For the gravy:
  9. Oil 2 tbsp
  10. Asafoetida 1 pinch
  11. Jeera 1 tsp
  12. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  13. Coriander powder 1 tsp
  14. Green chilli 1
  15. Ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  16. Curd 1 cup
  17. Chilly powder 1/2 tsp
  18. Garam masala 1/4 tsp
  19. Chopped coriander 1 tbsp
  20. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. For the dal pakodi, wash and soak the dal for 4 to 5 hours. Drain out the excess water, add ginger, green chilli, salt, and grind into a coarse paste.
  2. Heat the oil and whisk the dal batter with your hands till it becomes fluffy and light, then add the fresh coriander. Now fry these pakodis till they turn golden. (Save 1 tbsp dal batter for the gravy.)
  3. To prepare the gravy, heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida, cumin seeds, ginger, green chilli, dry spices and 1/2 cup of water. Cook in a low flame.
  4. In a bowl, mix the saved dal batter, 1 litre water, 1 cup curd and mix it well. Add this mixture to the masala, stir continuously till the first boil.
  5. Cook for some time, add the fried pakodis. Cover the lid and cook until the pakodis get soft in the gravy.
  6. Add the garam masala and fresh coriander. Serve it with roti, naan or rice .
