About Sindhi Dal Pakwan Recipe

Dal Pakwan is an authentic breakfast delicacy in Sindhi homes. Crisp flavored poories known as Pakwan served with spicy dal topped with chutney and chopped onions.

Sindhi Dal Pakwan

Ingredients to make Sindhi Dal Pakwan

  • For making dal :
  • Chana dal 1 cup
  • oil 1 tsp
  • cumin 1 tsp
  • salt 1 tbsp
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli + ginger paste 1 tsp
  • water 3 cups
  • For making fried green chillies
  • oil 1 tsp
  • Green chillies 2
  • salt 1/4 tsp
  • For making Pakwans :
  • maida 1 cup
  • wheat flour 1 cup
  • salt 1 tbsp
  • red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Ajwain 1 tsp
  • oil for moyan 2 tbsp
  • oil to deep fry
  • For assembly of dal pakwan :
  • Green chutney (dhania pudina)
  • imli chutney
  • Chopped onions 1
  • coriander leaves few

How to make Sindhi Dal Pakwan

  1. FOR MAKING DAL SOAK 1 CUP CHANA DAL IN WATER FOR 2 HOURS. IN A COOKER ADD 1 TSP OIL
  2. ADD 1 TSP CUMIN. ONCE IT SPLUTTERS, ADD IN SOAKED CHANA DAL
  3. ADD 1 TSP CHILLI AND GINGER PASTE
  4. ADD 1 TBSP SALT, 1/2 TSP TURMERIC AND 1/2 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER
  5. ADD 3 CUPS WATER AND BRING IT TO BOIL. PRESSURE COOK FOR 2 WHISTLES AND SIMMER FOR 5 TO 7 MINUTES
  6. ONCE PRESSURE IS RELEASED CHECK IT BY PRESSING BETWEEN 2 FINGERS. KEEP IT ASIDE.
  7. FOR MAKING PAKWAN, TAKE 1 CUP MAIDA AND 1 CUP WHEAT FLOUR
  8. MIX 1 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER, 1 TBSP SALT, 1 TSP AJWAIN AND 2 TBSP OIL
  9. KNEAD THE MEDIUM HARD DOUGH WITH WATER. COVER AND KEEP ASIDE FOR 10 MINUTES
  10. DIVIDE THE DOUGH IN EQUAL PARTS, ROLL THE DOUGH LIKE ROTI. PRICK THE ROLLED ROTI WITH KNIFE
  11. HEAT OIL AND LOWER DOWN THE ROLLED ROTI ONE AT A TIME UNTIL BOTH SIDES ARE A LIGHT GOLDEN-BROWN.
  12. BY PRICKING ROTI WOULD LIMIT IT FROM PUFFING AND MAKE THEM CRISP. TRANSFER PAKWAN OVER PAPER TOWEL.
  13. FOR MAKING DEEP FRIED CHILLIES, SLIT 2 GREEN CHILLIES AND DESSEED IT
  14. IN A SMALL PAN ADD 1 TSP OIL HEAT IT AND PUT SLITTED CHILLIES AND FRY THEM
  15. FILL IN 1/4 TSP SALT
  16. REMOVE FRIED CHILLIES ND PUT INTO DAL. IN THE SAME PAN ADD 1/4 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER. POUR OVER DAL
  17. WHEN SERVING, ASSEMBLE TAMRIND CHUTNEY, GREEN CHUTNEY, CHOPPED ONIONS, CORIANDER LEAVES AND PAKWAN
  18. WHILE SERVING SERVE PAKWAN WITH HOT DAL WITH DRIZZLE OF TAMARIND CHUTNEY AND GREEN CHUTNEY.
  19. ADD CHOPPED ONIONS AND CORIANDER LEAVES
  20. TAKE A PIECE OF FRIED PAKWAN. DIP INTO DAL AND ENJOY SINDHI DELICACY.
