One of the most popular chicken recipes from Odisha, this goes great with rotis as well as rice. While every family swears by their secret ingredient, this particular version is a hit with my family :)

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 250 gm Chicken pieces
  2. 1 large onion
  3. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  4. tbsp tomato puree
  5. 2-3 green chilis
  6. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  7. 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  8. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  9. 1/2 - 1 tsp soy sauce
  10. 1/3 tsp garam masala
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  12. 4 tsp oil
  13. Salt to taste
  14. 1/2 tsp sugar
  15. Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Wash the chicken pieces. Add turmeric, 1 tsp oil and salt. Mix and allow to marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Peel and grind the onion into a coarse paste.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai. When hot, add sugar. Once it browns a bit, then add the grated onion. Fry for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes away.
  5. Add all the powdered masalas and roast for 1 minute.
  6. Add tomato puree and cook till oil starts to separate.
  7. Add the marinated chicken. Stir on high for 2-3 minutes. Cover with a lid and cook till the chicken softens. Stir at regular intervals to avoid it getting burnt. Sprinkle some water if it gets too dry.
  8. Add the soya sauce and green chili. Toss the chicken pieces for 2 minutes on high.
  9. Remove from flame and serve hot with rotis/puris/white rice/pulao.
