About Medu vada Recipe

It is a south indian snack. generally enjoyed with coconut chutney and hot filter coffee.

Medu vada

Ingredients to make Medu vada

  • Urad daal ( split white lentils) 3 medium cups
  • Grated coconut 1 small cup
  • asafoetida 2 pinch
  • green chillies 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • ginger( finely chopped) 1/2 tbsp
  • curry leaves ( finely chopped) 1tbsp
  • salt according to taste
  • coconut oil or ghee for deep frying

How to make Medu vada

  1. soak urad daal overnight or atleast 10 hrs.
  2. wash and drain daal.
  3. grind daal by adding very less amount of water.
  4. take a bowl and add all the ingredients with batter.
  5. heat oil in kadhai take one spoon of hot oil and add it to the batter it will omit the use of baking soda.
  6. now wet your palm and take a lemon size batter in your palm and make it flat and circular with a whole in middle.
  7. safely slide it in oil and repeat for the same.
  8. flip occasionally till the colour become golden. Take out and your medu vada is ready.
  9. serve it with coconut chutney and hot filter coffee.

My Tip:

If your batter is too much runny add few table spoon of rice flour it will make your vada batter consistent and crispy.
