About Instant Stuffed Idli Recipe

Potato Stuffed inside Idli, gives a nice twist to traditional Idli recipes. I love the Stuffed Idlis as it reminds me my hometown street food which I used to u\eat during my college life. It makes more healthier and easy when it is instant.

Instant Stuffed Idli

Ingredients to make Instant Stuffed Idli

  • For Idli batter:
  • Roasted semolina (Rava or Sooji) – 1 cup
  • curd (Dahi) – 1 cup
  • salt – ½ tsp
  • Eno Fruit salt – ½ tsp
  • water as required
  • For stuffing:
  • Boiled & mashed potatoes – 3 small
  • Chopped green chillies – 1 tsp
  • Grated ginger – ½ tsp
  • turmeric Powder (Haldi) – ¼ tsp
  • curry leaves – 5 to 7
  • mustard seeds (Rai) – ½ tsp
  • cumin Seeds (Jeera) – ½ tsp
  • Asafetida – ¼ tsp
  • salt – ¼ tsp
  • oil – 2 tsp
  • coriander Leaves – ¼ cup
  • lemon juice – 1 tsp

How to make Instant Stuffed Idli

  1. In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of roasted Semolina (Rava), to that add 1 cup of Curd (Dahi), mix well and allow it to soak for 30 Min.
  2. In a preheated pan, take 2 tsp of Oil to that add ½ tsp of Mustard Seeds, ½ tsp of Cumin Seeds, Hing, 1 tsp of chopped Green Chillies, ½ tsp of grated Ginger and few Curry leaves.
  3. Then add boiled and mashed Potatoes followed by Salt and ¼ tsp of Turmeric Powder and mix well.
  4. Lastly add fresh Coriander Leaves and Lemon juice and keep aside.
  5. After 30Min add Water to the batter as required to get the Idli batter consistency.
  6. Then add ½ tsp of Salt and Eno to the batter and mix gently.
  7. Grease the Idli plates with Oil and switch on the steamer with enough amount of Water.
  8. Pour 1 tsp of Idli batter into each impression and then place the flatten Potato stuffing by gently pressing the Potato stuffing then pour again 1 tsp of Idli batter to cover the filling.
  9. Stack up the Idli plates and Steam for 10 to 12 Min.
  10. Then once done allow it to rest for another 3 min to cool down once taken out of the steamer.
  11. Unmold the Idli plate and serve hot with Chutney.

My Tip:

You can even add grated carrots and green peas to make it more healthy. Idli batter consistency is very important, it should not be too thick. Do not over mix the batter after adding Soda.
