Chapdi Tavo, a traditional kathiawari dish.Chapdi is nothing but thick fried/baked bhakhri and tavo is a mix vegetable gravy with full of Indian spices.

Ingredients to make Chapdi tavo (Rajkot famous food )

  • Chapdi
  • wheat flour-2 cup
  • semolina-1/4 cup
  • salt-to taste
  • Warm water
  • oil-1/3 cup
  • Carom seeds-1/8 tsp
  • Tavo
  • potato-1 medium size
  • bottle gourd-1 cup (chopped in medium size pieces)
  • Eggplant-1 medium size
  • carrot-1/3 cup
  • Green peas:-1/2 cup
  • garlic paste-1 tbsp
  • ginger paste- 1 tsp,
  • Green chili-2 (finely chopped)
  • onion-1 cup
  • tomato puree-2 cups
  •  turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder-2 tsp
  • Cumin and coriander powder-2 tsp
  • sugar-2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder-1 tbsp
  • coriander-1 cup (finely chopped)
  • oil-1/4 cup
  • cinnamon stick-1 small
  • cloves-3
  • bay leaf-1
  •  asafoetida

How to make Chapdi tavo (Rajkot famous food )

  1. Chapdi
  2. Mixflour,semolina,salt,carom seeds and oil well, then sprinkle water enough to form into stiff dough.
  3. Divide into equal balls and form a round shape and prick them.
  4. Fry them in low to medium heat in oil and flip them in between while frying. Take them out in a paper towel.
  5. Tavo: In a pan, heat oil and add all the tempering items onion and saute for a minute, add garlic, ginger, green chili paste and pinch of salt. 
  6. Cook until raw flavor of ginger-garlic reduces and onion becomes translucent.
  7. Add tomato puree,turmeric, red chili, coriander & cumin powder, salt, and all the boil vegetables
  8. Stir well. Add 3-4 cups water and cook covered in medium flame until vegetables are done (Keep stirring in between).
  9. Mix water and chili powder and set aside. 
  10. Heat oil in a pan and add prepared mix and cook for a while
  11. Pour cooked mix in tavo then add garam masala, sugar and 3/4 cup coriander.
  12. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  13. Crush 1 chapdi in a plate & pour hot tavo on it. Mix well.

My Tip:

Adjust the amount of oil and red chili powder according to your choice
