ABOUT Bajra Lauki Thalipeeth RECIPE

THALIPEETH! A special Maharashtrian dish with full of nutrition and a healthy and tasty breakfast or snack. Thalipeeth is a type of spiced pancake most popular in Western India. It is very easy to make and can be prepared in many ways and that too in very less time. Bajra flour (Pearl Millet) is rich in protein, fiber, phosphorus, magnesium and iron while Lauki (Bottle Gourd) also have many health benefits as we all know. Here we come with some twist in our recipe by making the Thalipeeth with Bajra flour and Lauki so let us taste something new.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. For Dough:
  2. Pearl Millet Flour / Bajra atta – 1 cup
  3. Whole Wheat Flour / Atta – 1 cup
  4. Sorghum Flour / Jowar atta – ½ cup
  5. Grated Bottle Gourd / Lauki – 1 ½ cup
  6. Chopped Onions – ¼ cup
  7. Soaked Flattened Rice / Poha – ½ cup
  8. Coriander Leaves – ½ cup
  9. Green Chilli Paste – 1 tsp
  10. Red Chilli Powder / Lal mirchi – 1 tsp
  11. Garam Masala – ½ + ¼ tsp
  12. Coriander Powder / Dhaniya – ½ tsp
  13. Asafetida / Hing – ¼ tsp
  14. Salt – ½ + ¼ tsp
  15. Oil – 2 tsp
  16. Water for kneading as required
  17. Other Ingredients:
  18. Sesame Seeds / Til – ¼ cup
  19. Oil – ¼ cup

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, take 1 cup of Pearl Millet flour (Bajra atta), 1 cup of Whole Wheat flour (Atta) and ½ cup of Sorghum flour (Jowar atta) followed by 1 ½ cup of grated Bottle Gourd (Lauki).
  2. Then add ¼ cup of chopped Onions, 1 tsp of Green Chilli Paste, 1 tsp of Red Chilli Powder, ¾ tsp of Garam Masala powder, ½ tsp of Coriander Powder, ¼ tsp of Hing and ½ cup of fresh Coriander leaves.
  3. Furthermore, add 2 tsp of Oil then add ½ cup of soaked Flattened Rice (Poha) and mix well.
  4. Add ¾ tsp of Salt and use Water as required for kneading the soft dough.
  5. Cover the dough and allow the dough to rest for 30 Min.
  6. In a preheated tawa, add 2 tsp of Oil then add ½ tsp of Sesame Seeds (Til).
  7. Take small portion of the dough and start rolling the Thalipeeth by tapping and pressing the dough with hand and make 5-inch roti.
  8. While pressing use Water if required as it sticks to the hand.
  9. Then apply 1 tsp of Oil over Thalipeeth.
  10. Cover the lid and simmer the gas on low flame for 5 Min.
  11. Flip over the Thalipeeth and roast from other side for more 5 Min on low flame without covering the lid.
  12. In a similar way, make all the Thalipeeths.
  13. Healthy Bajra Lauki Thalipeeth is now ready to serve hot with Curd, Raita or Pickle.
