Traditional Bengali recipe, a delicious curry made with dal and fish head.

Fish head dal fry

Ingredients to make Fish head dal fry

  • Rohu fish head 1 cut into 2haves
  • Yellow lentil(moong dal) 150 gram
  • mustard oil 4 tablespoon
  • ginger paste 1 tablespoon
  • garlic paste 1 tablespoon
  • Dry red chillies 4
  • onion chopped 1 large
  • turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • cumin powder 1½ teaspoon
  • coriander powder 1½ teaspoon
  • red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder ½ teaspoon
  • Panchphorun 1½ teaspoon
  • bay leaf 2
  • coriander chopped 3 tablespoon
  • salt to taste

How to make Fish head dal fry

  1. Marinate fish head with turmeric powder and salt.
  2. Fry the fish head on medium flame from both sides for 4-5 minutes, crush the fish head and fry for another 3 minutes.
  3. Dry roast the lentil for 4-5 minutes in pressure cooker.
  4. Add 1½cup of water, salt, turmeric into the cooker and mix it well.
  5. Close the lid and cook the lentil for 1 whistle in high flame.
  6. Heat oil add panchphorun, bay leaf, red chilli fry for few seconds
  7. Add onion saute for 2-3 minutes
  8. Add ginger garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder saute for 2-3 minutes
  9. Add crushed fish head fry for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Add boiled lentil into the pan add little bit of water let it come to boil.
  11. Add garam masala, chopped coriander leaves boil for 2-3 minutes.
