Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Kuthiraivali / Barnyard Millet – 1 cup
  2. Yellow Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Water – 4 cup
  5. Ghee – 1 tsp
  6. For Tempering:
  7. Ghee – 4 tblspn
  8. Cumin Seeds – 2 tsp
  9. Whole Pepper – 2 tsp
  10. Green Chillies – 2 chopped finely
  11. Ginger – 1 tblspn
  12. Curry leaves – a sprig


  1. Wash dal and millet really well. Drain it and set aside
  2. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in dal, roast till golden. 
  3. Add in millet along with water and salt. Pressure cook fo 3 whistle. 
  4. Simmer for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let them steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and mix well
  5. Heat ghee in a pan. Add in all the ingredients for tempering. Mix well
  6. Add the cooked dal millet and mix well. Serve with sambar  or chutney.
