ABOUT Spicy Dum Fish Biriyani RECIPE

Fish is definetly one among the many things we miss being in middle east.Biriyani is truly a delicacy of india.This biriyani is prepared best with king fish and salmon fish.I live in oman.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. King fish - 1/2 kg
  2. Basmati rice - 3 cups(soak them for 10minutes)
  3. Ghee - 5 tablespoon
  4. onions - 3 + 1
  5. Tomato - 1
  6. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
  7. cloves,cardamom and cinnamon - As required
  8. Green chilli - 3
  9. Oil - 1/2 + 1/2 cup
  10. Mint leaves - As required
  11. Coriander leaves chopped - As required
  12. Biriyani spices:
  13. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  14. Chilli powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  15. Pepper powder -1/2 tablespoon
  16. Coriander powder - 2 tablespoon
  17. Saunf powder - 2 tablespoon
  18. Garam masala - 1/2 tablespoon
  19. For marinating fish :
  20. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  21. Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon
  22. saunf powder - 1 tablespoon
  23. Pepper powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  24. salt - as required
  25. For biriyani masala:
  26. Jeeragam powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  27. cinnamon - 2
  28. onion-1/4 piece
  29. mint leaves - few chopped
  30. Green chilli - 2

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with ingredients mentioned under ‘for marinating fish’.Keep aside for half an hour.
  2. Meanwhile chop 1 onion and fry them in a pan pouring 1/2 cup oil.
  3. In the same pan and oil,fry the marinated fish and keep then aside.
  4. For the biriyani masala,grind the items mentioned under ‘biriyani masala’ and keep it aside.
  5. In a big pot,add 5 cup of water and when it comes to boil add the rice.Cook the rice till its almost done .It takes around 10minutes.
  6. Drain the rice and keep it aside.
  7. In a pan add 1/2 cup tablespoon of oil.Add ginger garlic paste,onions,tomato,green chilli,cloves,cinnamon.
  8. After 5 minutes,add salt and cook them well.Add the spices mentioned under ‘Biriyani spices’.
  9. Pour 1/2 cup water and bring them to boil.
  10. After few minutes pour the grinded biriyani masala to it.
  11. Allow them cook under low flame for 5 minutes.Cook them till oil seperates.
  12. Place the fried fish in the pan and sprinkle some coriander and mint leaves over them.Close the lid and allow them to cook for 2 minutes.
  13. Now spoon the cooked rice on top and garnish them with fried onions,mint,coriander leaves and ghee.
  14. keep a thick pan on the flame and place the cooking pot over it. Let this whole thing be on dum for 7-10 minutes.
  15. Turn off the heat and transfer to another plate.
  16. Fish biriyani is ready to be served.
