This is a special chaat from varanasi, made with tomatoes.

Banarasi Tamatar ki Chaat

Ingredients to make Banarasi Tamatar ki Chaat

  • 6 tomatoes
  • 4 boiled potatoes
  • 1 tbsp malai
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli
  • 100 gm sugar
  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 inch chopped ginger
  • 1 tsp chat masala
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 lemon
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • Mini namak parre
  • Soaked 3 dried red chillies

How to make Banarasi Tamatar ki Chaat

  1. HEAT 2 TBSP OIL, ADD CHILLI-GINGER PASTE & SAUTE
  2. ADD 1 TBSP FRESH CREAM, SAUTE
  3. ADD 1 TSP POPPY SEEDS, 1 TSP GARAM MASALA & 1/2 TSP KASHMIRI RED CHILLI POWDER, STIR BRISKLY
  4. ADD 2 BOILED & MASHED TOMATOES, MIX IN
  5. ADD 1/2 CUP WATER, SIMMER ON LOW HEAT FOR A FEW MINS, TOMATO CURRY IS READY, SET ASIDE
  6. TAJE 5-6 MASHED POTATOES, ADD 1 TSP EACH OF SALT & CHAT MASALA, 1/4 TSP PEPPER POWDER, MIX
  7. SHAPE INTO SMALL TIKKIS
  8. GREASE A NONSTICK TAVA WITH SOME OIL, COOK THE TIKKIS TILL GOLDEN BROWN & CRISP ON BOTH SIDES
  9. ONCE THE TIKKIS ARE READY, MOVE THEM ASIDE ADD 4 GRATED TOMATOES
  10. ADD 1 TSP SALT & MIX & COOK THE TIKKIS WITH THE TOMATOES
  11. ADD 1 TSP ROASTED CUMIN POWDER, 1 TSP OIL & SAUTE WELL
  12. TO SERVE : ADD 2 TBSP TOMATO-TIKKI MIX TO A SERVING BOWL, 2 TSP SUGAR SYRUP
  13. ADD 2 TBSP GHEE, 4 TBSP READY TOMATO CURRY
  14. GARNISH WITH MINI NAMAKPARE
  15. ADD SOME LEMON JUICE ON TOP, SERVE IMMEDIATELY
