Macher Chop/ Fish Cutlet

Ingredients to make Macher Chop/ Fish Cutlet

  • Bhetki/Basa Fish (Boneless) -250 gms
  • ginger & Garlic Paste-1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Boiled & Mashed potato- 1 small
  • onion-1 and 1/2 chopped
  • garlic (Grated): 1 tsp
  • ginger (grated): 1 tsp
  • red chilli powder- 1 tsp
  • green chillies (chopped)- 1
  • cumin powder: 1 tsp
  • chicken masala powder- 1/2 tsp
  • pudina Leaves-1 tbsp, chopped
  • oil to cook the stuffing and frying the cutlets
  • cloves-2
  • cardamom-2
  • cinnamon-1/2 inch piece
  • Breadcrumbs-1 cup
  • egg-1

How to make Macher Chop/ Fish Cutlet

  1. Boil the fish pieces with 2 tbsp chopped onion, ginger and garlic(grated),salt, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom for 10 mins till the fish is opaque in colour. Once cooked, take the fish out and let it cool.
  2. Heat oil and add the chopped onion, when it turns pink add the ginger garlic paste and `chillies. Cook for few mins and add the boiled mashed potates to cook it for 2 mins. Now add all the powder masalas, salt and mix. Meanwhile mash the fish.
  3. Now add the fish to the pan and mix again. Now add the chopped mint leaves to the pan and mix. Once the mixture cools down make small oval shaped cutlets with it. Rest for 5 minutes. Meanwhile beat the egg and keep it in a bowl.
  4. Spread the bread crumbs in a plate. Dip the cutlets in the egg and then in the bread crumb. Repeat the process and let the cutlet rest for 10 mins. Now deep fry the cutlets in white oil and once brown take it out with a slotted spoon.

My Tip:

I served these cutlets with kasundi or bengali mustard sauce with onion rings. You can eat it with ketchup as well.
