It's my Mom's recipe an all time favourite with the family and so easy to make.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 whole crabs, cut into medium pieces
  2. 2 onions
  3. 1 tbsp Tomato puree
  4. 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic paste
  5. 4-5 green chillies
  6. Mustard oil
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Turmeric powder
  9. Red Chilli powder
  10. Cumin powder
  11. 1 tsp Mustard Paste
  12. 1/2 tsp Sugar


  1. Marinate the prawns with salt and turmeric and keep aside for 5 mins.
  2. Now heat mustard oil and fry the crabs till they change colour. Remove and keep aside.
  3. Now in the same oil, add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute. Please ensure that it doesn't burn.
  4. Then add the onions and fry till they turn golden brown. Add the tomato puree and the dry spices and fry till the masala leaves oil.
  5. Now add 1 cup hot water and let it come to boil. Once it starts boiling add the crabs and cover and cook for five minutes.
  6. Lastly add the mustard paste and cook for another five minutes. When all the masala coats the crabs well, it's done.
  7. Serve it with steamed rice.
