Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup barnyard millet
  2. 1/2 cup Moong Dal
  3. 10 shallots
  4. 1 tomato
  5. 1 potato, chopped
  6. 1 drumstick, cut into 2 inch pieces
  7. 1/4 cup carrots, chopped
  8. 5 green chilly
  9. 3 garlic clove
  10. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  11. 3 tablespoons sambar powder
  12. 1 cup tamarind juice
  13. Salt
  14. Coriander leaves, chopped
  15. 1/2 tablespoons ghee
  16. Seasonings
  17. 2 tablespoons gingelly oil
  18. 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  19. 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  20. 2 dried red chilly
  21. 1 sprig curry leaves
  22. a pinch of Hing

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak, millet and dal for 20 min
  2. In a pressure cooker, heat oil and add seasoning items. Saute for few min
  3. Add in chopped onion, tomato, green chilly, salt, garlic and saute for few min.
  4. Add chopped veggies, salt, turmeric powder, sambar powder, cook for few min
  5. Add tamarind pulp and required water
  6. When heated, add soaked dal and cook
  7. When comes to single boil, add soaked millet and close pan. Cook for 15 to 20 min.
  8. Add water if required
  9. Turn off the flame . Add ghee and garnish with coriander leaves .
  10. Serve with appalam or raita
