ABOUT Mustard Green Chilli Pickle RECIPE

I know, how foodies love the way their Mom used to cook, that's our biggest source of inspiration for recipes or everyday food. Yes, this is my Mom's recipe which is still popular in my family. Even my 12 years old daughter loves to eat this Mustard Green Chilli Pickle with her food. Sharing my mom's recipe today to make this on the coming Mother's day that is very special to all. Unlike most heavy oil-based pickles, this quick pickle is light with hot and a delicious tang of mustard and lemon. This chilli pickle needs very few and basic pantry ingredients. Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 250 gram washed and dry green chillies
  2. 4 tablespoon mustard kuriya (mustard splits)
  3. A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  4. 5-6 tablespoon oil
  5. Salt to taste
  6. 1/4 teaspoon jaggery (gor)
  7. 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  8. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Cut the green chillies into small pieces. Place them in a bowl and add a pinch of salt to mix well.
  2. Keep these chillies in a bowl for at least half an hour. Then drain the chilli-salt water and keep the green chillies in a bowl. (This way the green chillies will reduce their spiciness). This is totally optional step.
  3. Take another bowl. Combine the mustard splits (kuriya), asafoetida, oil, salt, jaggery, lemon juice and turmeric powder in a bowl.
  4. Toss all the ingredients and beat them in a round motion with hands for about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Add the green chilies and toss them. Mix well and adjust salt and lemon juice according to your taste. Transfer them in to a sterilized bottle or in a glass jar.
  6. Store in a fridge for long and enjoy!
