Kabuli channa is called kadale kalu in kannada. It is prepared during festivals especially Ganesh Chathurthi. It is also distributed in temples. At home mom used to prepare this for us when we were back from school as a healthy snack. Kabuli channa is rich in protein and fiber and good for health. It can also be prepared with black channa. Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/2 cup Kabuli Channa
  2. Mustard 1/4 tsp
  3. Jeera 1/4 tsp
  4. Curry leaves a few
  5. Green chilli 2
  6. Red chilli 2
  7. Garlic 4-5 pods
  8. Ginger 1/4"
  9. Coriander leaves 1tbsp
  10. Fresh coconut 2 tbsp
  11. Channa dal 1 tsp
  12. Urad dal 1 tsp
  13. Asafoetida a pinch
  14. Juice of 1/2 lemon
  15. Oil 1 tbsp
  16. Salt to taste
  17. Turmeric a little

Instructions

  1. Soak the Kabuli Channa Overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the soaked channa for 3-4 whistles.
  3. Make a coarse paste of ginger, garlic and green chilli.
  4. In a kadai add oil.
  5. Add mustard seeds and Jeera, when they splutter add the Asafoetida, curry leaves and red chilli.
  6. Next add channa dal and urad dal. Fry.
  7. Now add the ginger, garlic, green chilli paste and fry till the raw smell goes. Add Turmeric and mix.
  8. Now add the cooked channa to the Tadka, add salt to taste and mix.
  9. Now add the chopped Coriander and fresh coconut.
  10. Finally add the lemon juice and serve hot.
  11. Kabuli channa usali is ready to be served.
