ABOUT Pav Bhaji - Mumbai Street Snack RECIPE

This is another snack in my list that I can never think of missing while visiting Mumbai. It is found in every street corner food stalls and restaurants. Just the mention of Pav Bhaji reminds me of this yummy street food snack that has become almost a hot favourite with everyone. Mumbai is incomplete without it. Country.......UAE.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup each of capsicum, carrots, potato, peas, cabbage and cauliflower
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 1 tbsp. ginger-garlic paste
  4. 1 tomato, choppd
  5. 1 tbsp. oil
  6. 2-3 tbsp. butter or as required
  7. 1 tsp. tomato paste (opt)
  8. salt to taste
  9. 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  10. 1 tsp. red chili powder
  11. 1-2 tbsp. pav bhaji masala / garam masala powder
  12. few pavs (bread) as required
  13. onion, green chilies & lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the veggies in 1 cup water for 3-4 whistles. Heat oil in pan and saute the onion till light brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste, tomato paste and all the dry spices mixed with some water to form a paste. Saute till the oil separates.
  3. Now add the tomatoes and fry on a low flame till well mashed. Add the boiled veggies and continue to simmer on low flame, simultaneously mashing it with a masher. When almost done, add a tsp. of butter and give it a mix.
  4. Heat another tsp. of butter on a tawa / griddle and toast the pav halves on both sides. Serve the pav bhaji with a dollop of butter on top of it along with the toasted pavs, chopped onion, green chilies and lime wedges.
