About Baked Fish Paturi Recipe

This is the traditional fish paturi tweaked a bit for those living in cities where you might not have access to banana leaves. The paturi is steamed and the banana leaves add their own flavor to the dish. Since I am not using the leaves, I have decided to grill the fish.

Baked Fish Paturi

Ingredients to make Baked Fish Paturi

  • 500 gm fish (Basa/Hilsa/Bhetki)
  • 5 tbsp khus khus/poppy seeds
  • 3 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 2 green chillies
  • salt to taste

How to make Baked Fish Paturi

  1. Grind together the poppy seeds, mustard seeds, green chillies and salt to a fine paste. Cut the fish into big cubes. Marinate the fish pieces in the paste for at least 1 hour. Check the seasoning.
  2. Preheat the oven at 230 degrees celsius. Wrap the fish pieces in aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  3. Serve warm.

My Tip:

I have not added turmeric deliberately because I want my fish to be a flaky white beauty. You can add turmeric if you wish.
