Mutton Kasha

Ingredients to make Mutton Kasha

  • Mutton 500 gms
  • Big sized onion- 5
  • Medium sized garlic- 1
  • ginger 1 piece
  • tomatoes Medium Size- 4
  • Medium sized potatoes- 4
  • bay leaf 1
  • cumin seeds 2 tsp
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Whole khada masala (black cardamom, cloves, black pepper, cinnamon)
  • salt to taste
  • red chilli powder
  • turmeric powder
  • coriander power 1 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Mutton masala 1 tbsp
  • mustard oil 6 tbsp
  • coriander leaves

How to make Mutton Kasha

  1. Heat a little mustard oil in a pan and dry roast the mutton pieces with a little salt and turmeric for a few minutes.
  2. Chop 2 of the onions, grind the rest with cumin, ginger, and garlic. Keep aside. Also grind the tomatoes separately.
  3. Heat the rest of mustard oil in a pressure cooker, add a pinch of sugar with the whole Khada Masala and Bay leaf. Add the onions and saute them.
  4. Add the grounded masala along with turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder and chilli powder. Fry well until the oil separates itself.
  5. Add the tomatoes, salt and mutton masala, fry it again. Then add the mutton pieces with peeled whole potatoes and dry roast.
  6. Add 1/2 cup of warm of water and pressure cook for 2 whistles, then cook on a low flame for another 10 mins.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.

My Tip:

Add a few chunks of raw papaya while cooking the mutton. It makes the cooking process faster.
