ABOUT Katla Fish Kaliya RECIPE

Katla fish kaliya is a famous and a familiar bengali dish. It is wonderful to eat katla fish kaliya with hot steamed rice. The taste and the flavour of this dish is unrivaled. Bengalis and fish are involved with each other. That is why bongs are often called 'Machhe- Bhaate Bangali'.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Katla fish pieces - 6
  2. Onion paste - 1/4 cup
  3. Ginger-garlic-green chilli paste - 1 tbsp
  4. Yogurt - 2 tbsp
  5. Turmeric powder - 1 tbsp
  6. Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  7. Cumin-Corriander paste - 1 tsp
  8. Garam masala paste - 1 tsp
  9. Chopped corriander leaves - 1tbsp
  10. Salt - As required
  11. Cumin seeds - A pinch
  12. Mustard oil - 3 tbsp
  13. Warm water - 2 cups
  14. For fry :- Mustard oil - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Mix turmeric powder and salt with fish pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds for seasoning.
  3. Deep fry fish pieces and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan.
  5. Add onion paste and saute for 2 minutes on low flame.
  6. Add ginger-garlic-green chilli paste and stir for 30 seconds.
  7. Next add cumin-corriander paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, little amount of salt and saute for 2 minutes.
  8. Add beat yogurt and combine together.
  9. Add warm water and some salt.
  10. When gravy becomes thick, add fried fish and garam masala paste.
  11. Sprinkle chopped Corriander leaves before serveing.
