This is a simple side dish done with boiled potatoes in south indian ste. It tates best with sambar and rasam rice

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. potato 2
  2. onion 2
  3. Green chillies 4
  4. Curry leaves few
  5. Grated coconut 1 tablespoon
  6. salt accordingly
  7. turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Fennel seeds 1 teaspoon
  9. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Urad dal 1/2 teaspoon
  11. asafoetida a pinch

Instructions

  1. CUT 2 LARGE POTATOES,WASH AND PRESSURE COOK WITH 1 TEASPOON SALT
  2. PRESSURE COOK FOR 4-5 WHISTLES
  3. DRAIN AND LET IT COOL
  4. CHOP 2 ONIONS,4 GREEN CHILLIES AND FEW CURRY LEAVES
  5. PEEL AND MASH THE POTATOES WITH HAND
  6. HEAT 20 ML OIL IN A KADAI
  7. ADD MUSTARD SEEDS AND URAD DAL
  8. ADD CHOPPED ONIONS
  9. ADD GREEN CHILLIES
  10. ADD CURRY LEAVES
  11. ADD 1/2 TEASPOON TURMERIC POWDER AND STIR WELL
  12. ADD 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
  13. STIR WELL
  14. ADD A PINCH OF ASAFOETIDA
  15. ADD 1 TEASPOON OF COARSELY CRUSHED FENNEL SEEDS AND STIR WELL
  16. ADD THE MASHED POTATOES
  17. MIX WELL AND COOK IN LOW FLAME FOR 5 MINUTES
  18. FINALLY GARNISH WITH 1 TABLESPOON OF GRATED COCONUT
  19. MIX WELL
  20. URULAI PODIMAS IS READY. TASTES BEST WITH SAMBAR AND RASAM RICE
