ABOUT Besan aloo curry RECIPE

Fried besan paatice/cake which is then dipped in a thick delicious tomato-onion paste. You can enjoy the taste of this delicious vegetarian side dish with steamed rice and even with chapatis.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Besan 1 cup
  2. Potato 2 cut into cubes
  3. Ginger garlic paste 2tsp
  4. Onion 1 paste
  5. Tomato 1 chopped
  6. Green chilli 2-3
  7. Cumin seeds 1tsp
  8. Bayleaf 1
  9. Cumin powder 2tsp
  10. Coriander powder 2tsp
  11. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  12. Kashmiri red chilli powder 1tsp
  13. Garam masala powder 1tsp
  14. Kasoori methi 1tsp
  15. Oil as needed
  16. Salt as per taste
  17. Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  1. TAKE BESAN IN A BOWL.
  2. ADD SALT
  3. WATER AND MIX WELL.
  4. NO LUMPS SHOULD BE THERE.
  5. HEAT OIL IN A KADHAI, ADD ONION PASTE AND SAUTE A MIN.
  6. ADD CUMIN POWDER, CORIANDER POWDER, TURMERIC POWDER,
  7. RED CHILLI POWDER
  8. SALT TO TASTE.
  9. MIX WELL AND ADD LITTLE WATER AND COOK TILL OIL SEPARATES.
  10. ADD CRUSHED KASURI METHI AND MIX.
  11. NOW ADD THE BESAN MIXTURE.
  12. MIX WELL TILL IT THICKENS AND FORMS A DOUGH LIKE TEXTURE.
  13. SWITCH OFF AND COOL A BIT.
  14. TRANSFER THE MIXTURE TO A GREASED PLATE.
  15. SPREAD IT EVENLY.
  16. AFTER 10 - 15MINS CUT INTO PIECES.
  17. SHALLOW FRY THE PIECES TILL CRISPY AND BROWN ON BOTH THE SIDES.
  18. SHALLOW FRY THE POTATO PIECES.
  19. HEAT OIL IN A KADHAI, ADD CUMIN SEEDS, BAYLEAF,
  20. ONION PASTE AND MIX WELL.
  21. COOK TILL RAW AROMA GOES.
  22. ADD GINGER GARLIC PASTE AND COOK 2MINS.
  23. ADD CHOPPED TOMATO,
  24. SALT, TURMERIC POWDER, RED CHILLI POWDER
  25. CUMIN POWDER,
  26. CORIANDER POWDER AND
  27. MIX WELL.
  28. ADD POTATOES AND MIX.
  29. ADD KASHMIRI RED CHILLI POWDER.
  30. WATER AND COOK COVERED FOR 8-10MINS.
  31. WHEN POTATOES ALMOST COOKED AND CURRY BECOMES LITTLE THICK, ADD THE FRIED BESAN PIECES.
  32. ADD GARAM MASALA POWDER, MIX WELL AND SWITCH OFF.
