Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 3/4 cup raw rice
  2. 2 tbsp peanuts
  3. one teaspoon jaggery
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. half teaspoon turmeric
  6. Lemon sized tamarind
  7. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  8. To Roast and Grind
  9. 2 teaspoon oil
  10. 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  11. 1/4 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds
  12. 3 teaspoon black sesame seeds
  13. Half teaspoon jeera
  14. 2 teaspoon chana dal
  15. 2 teaspoon urad dal
  16. 4-6 dry red chilli
  17. For Seasoning
  18. 3 Teaspoon oil
  19. 1 sprig curry leaves
  20. 1 tsp urad dal
  21. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  22. 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves to garnish
  23. 1 teaspoon coconut flakes to garnish

Instructions

  1. COOK THE RICE
  2. ALLOW RICE TO COOL TO ROOM TEMPERATURE
  3. SOAK TAMARIND IN 1/2 CUP WATER FOR 15-20 MINUTES
  4. EXTRACT THE TAMARIND PULP AND KEEP IT ASIDE
  5. DRY ROAST SESAME SEEDS UNTIL IT CRACKLES. KEEP IT ASIDE
  6. IN SAME PAN, HEAT OIL AND ROAST SPICES AND DALS UNTIL DALS TURN GOLDEN BROWN
  7. ADD GRATED COCONUT AND LIGHTLY ROAST
  8. ALLOW MIXTURE TO COOL COMPLETELY
  9. GRIND MIXTURE INCLUDING SESAME SEEDS TO POWDER
  10. HEAT OIL AND SPLUTTER MUSTARD SEEDS
  11. ADD URAD DAL, PEANUTS AND CURRY LEAVES. ROAST UNTIL PEANUTS ARE GOLDEN BROWN
  12. ADD TURMERIC, SALT, JAGGERY AND TAMARIND WATER. MIX WELL UNTIL JAGGERY DISSOLVES
  13. ADD GROUND POWDER AND SAUTE UNTIL IT BECOMES PASTE. SWITCH OFF THE HEAT
  14. ALLOW TO COOL SLIGHTLY
  15. ADD COOKED RICE ON TOP OF THE PASTE
  16. USING HANDS, GENTLY MIX UNTIL RICE IS COATED WITH PASTE
  17. GARNISH WITH CORIANDER LEAVES AND COCONUT FLAKES. SERVE WARM
