Traditionally we soak the dal to make halwa and add mawa but here I have powdered the dry daal and used milk with less quantity of ghee to make a delicious healthy halwa.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Moong daal 1 cup
  2. sugar 1 cup
  3. ghee 1/2 cup
  4. cardamoms 6-7
  5. Milk 500 ml
  6. water 1 cup
  7. cashews 10
  8. almonds 10
  9. kesar strands 10
  10. Pistachio. 10
  11. raisins 10-15

Instructions

  1. PREPARE 1 CUP MOONG DAL,1 CUP SUGAR,1/2 CUP GHEE,DRYFRUITS,10-15 KESAR STRANDS SOAKED IN A TBSP MILK,500 ML MILK AND CARDAMOMS.
  2. WIPE MOONG DAAL PROPERLY AND GRIND IN MIXER POT.
  3. MAKE A COARSE POWDER.
  4. TAKE 1/2 CUP GHEE IN A NON STICK PAN.
  5. ADD THE POWDERED MOONG DAAL.
  6. STIR TO MIX GHEE AND MOONG DAAL POWDER.STIR ON SLOW TO MEDIUM FLAME.
  7. IN THE MEANWHILE BOIL THE MILK ON OTHER GAS.
  8. ALSO ROAST THE DRYFRUITS.
  9. SEE THE TEXTURE AFTER 5 MINUTES.
  10. AFTER 10 MINUTES MIXTURE BECOMES LIGHT AND FROTHY.
  11. THE MOONG DAAL MIXTURE IS ROASTED NICELY AND STARTED LEAVING GHEE.SEE THE CHANGE IN COLOUR.
  12. NOW ADD THE HOT MILK SLOWLY.
  13. STIR WELL SO THAT NO LUMPS ARE FORMED.
  14. WHEN THE HALWA ABSORBS ALL THE MILK ,ADD 1 CUP HOT WATER.
  15. ADD THE KESAR SOAKED MILK TOO.
  16. MIX WELL AND COVER.COOK ON LOW FLAME FOR 10 MINUTES.STIR ONCE IN BETWEEN.
  17. THE HALWA IS COOKED,NOW ADD A CUP OF SUGAR.
  18. MIX WELL.
  19. ADD CARDAMOM POWDER AND THE ROASTED DRYFRUITS.
  20. THE HALWA IS READY,CAN SEE GHEE LEAVING FROM SIDES.
  21. WHILE SERVING TO YOUR GUESTS TOP THE HALWA WITH SOME GHEE.
  22. SPRINKLE SOME NUTS AND PISTA SLIVERS.
  23. OUR DELICIOUS MOONG DAAL HALWA IS READY TO ENJOY.
