ABOUT Irish Soda Bread RECIPE

Traditional Irish soda bread has cross marking on top which indicates blessings of Lord and before baking 4 holes are poked in each corner of loaf to release fairies to prevent curse as per legend. This is healthy and delicious bread

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  2. 3/4 cup+2 tbsp all purpose flour
  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1/2 tbsp oats
  6. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  7. 2 tbsp cold butter
  8. 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp buttermilk

Instructions

  1. IN A BOWL, ADD FLOURS , BAKING SODA AND SALT. MIX WELL
  2. ADD IN BUTTER AND MIX UNTIL FLOUR IS CRUMBLY
  3. WHISK EGG AND BUTTERMILK IN A BOWL
  4. RESERVE 2 TBSP BUTTERMILK ASIDE
  5. MAKE WELL IN FLOUR MIXTURE. ADD REMAINING BUTTERMILK MIX. BRING THE DOUGH TOGETHER. DO NOT KNEAD
  6. DUST SURFACE WITH FLOUR. ADD DOUGH AND PAT INTO ROUND SHAPE ABOUT 4 CM THICK. DO NOT KNEAD DOUGH
  7. PLACE DOUGH ON PREPARED BAKING TRAY
  8. SCORE BREAD WITH DEEP CROSS ON TOP
  9. POKE HOLE IN 4 CORNERS OF DOUGH
  10. GLAZE BREAD WITH RESERVED BUTTERMILK MIX
  11. SPRINKLE OATS ON TOP
  12. BAKE FOR 15 MINUTES IN PREHEATED OVEN AT 190 DEG
  13. BAKE FOR 20-30 MINUTES AT REDUCED TEMP OF 160 UNTIL DONE AND LOAF SOUNDS SLIGHTLY HOLLOW AT BOTTOM
  14. COOL LIGHTLY. SLICE AND SERVE WARM
