Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice 1 1/2 cup
  2. Moong dal 1/4 cup
  3. Chana dal 1/4 cup
  4. Spinach 1 cup
  5. Methi leaves 1/4 cup
  6. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  7. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Lemon 1/2
  10. 1 onion choped
  11. Potatoe 2 medium
  12. Green peas 1/2 cup
  13. 1 tomatoe chopped
  14. Cumin 1 tsp
  15. Curry leaves
  16. Coriander 2 tbsps + to garnish
  17. Ghee 1 tbsp
  18. Oil 1 tbsp
  19. Green chillies 2
  20. Garlic 2
  21. Ginger 1/2 inch
  22. Cloves 3
  23. Dalchini 1
  24. Cardamon 2

Instructions

  1. TAKE 2 TBSP EACH OF MUNG & CHANA DAL
  2. ADD 1.5 CUPS RICE, WASH & SET ASIDE TO SOAK IN WATER
  3. ADD THE INGREDIENTS OF THE MASALA TO A MIXER JAR, BLEND
  4. MAKE A COARSE PASTE LIKE THIS, SET ASIDE
  5. HEAT 1 TBSP EACH OF OIL & GHEE IN A PRESSURE COOKER
  6. ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, A FEW CURRY LEAVES
  7. ADD 1 CHOPPED ONION, SAUTE
  8. ADD THE GROUND MASALA, SAUTE
  9. ADD 1 CUP CHOPPED SPINACH LEAVES
  10. ADD 1/4 CUP CHOPPED FENUGREEK LEAVES, SAUTE UNTIL THEY SHRINK
  11. ADD 1 CHOPPED TOMATO, 1 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER, 1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER
  12. ADD 1/2 CUP PEAS, 2 CUBED POTATOES
  13. ADD THE DRAINED DAL-RICE MIX
  14. ADD SALT TO TASTE, 4 CUPS WATER
  15. SQUEEZE THE JUICE OF 1/2 A LEMON, PRESSURE COOK UPTO 3 WHISTLES
  16. THE KHICHADI IS READY
  17. GARNISH WITH A HANDFUL OF FRESH CORIANDER, SERVE HOT WITH CURD
