ABOUT Mung Dal Onion Garlic Shev RECIPE

Shev is a favorite snack during Diwali festival and been prepared using different types of dals or split lentils. There are different types and flavors of shev can be made at home and available in market. Shev is also used in many recipes like shev bhaji, rassa, various chat dishes.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Mung dal or Petite Yellow Lentils split flour - 2 cups
  2. Rice flour - 1/2 cup
  3. Oil for frying + 2 tbsp for kneading
  4. Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  6. Red chili powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  7. Garlic cloves - 5-6 Make a paste
  8. Onion - 1/4th medium finely chopped and blended into paste.
  9. Asafoetida - 1/4th teaspoon
  10. Crushed Carrom seeds - 1teaspoon
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Water as required for kneading

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together. Add 2 tbsp oil and mix well.
  2. Blend garlic cloves and onion into fine paste.
  3. Add paste into flour and mix well till it incorporates well with flour.
  4. Add water slowly at a time and make a soft dough. cover and keep aside for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Divide dough into 5-6 equal parts. Put one part into a greased shev mould.
  6. Heat Oil in a wok. Press out the dough in circles into oil.
  7. Fry on low medium flame till golden and crisp.
  8. Remove excess oil. Place them on kitchen towel.
  9. Once cooled store into airtight container.
