ABOUT Chukka patta dal RECIPE

Chukka leaves high in vitaman C have a lemon tart flavour. It's prepared with dal alongwith the stalks either sauted and added with the tempering or pressure cooking with the dal and tempering later. I prefer the later method as the leaves are completely mixed and disolved with dal and kids have leafy green dals only if they don't get the cooked leaves separately while eating. So that's the best method.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chukka patta /khatta palak - 1 big bunch
  2. Tuwar dal - 1 cup
  3. water - 6 cups
  4. salt to taste
  5. For Tempering :
  6. Red chilli - 5 to 6
  7. garlic - 7 to 8 flakes
  8. Green chilli - 1
  9. Asfotedia - 1/4 tsp
  10. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  11. cumin seeds - tsp

Instructions

  1. MASH WELL WITH THE BACK OF A LADDLE
  2. KEEP INGREDIENTS READY FOR TEMPERING
  3. ADD INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING. SAUTE
  4. ADD IT TO THE MASHED DAL AND MIX WELL
  5. ADD SALT FOR SEASONING AND REMAINING WATER
  6. SIMMER FOR 10 MINUTES
  7. READY TO SERVE WITH HOT STEAMED RICE!
