ABOUT Methi Matar Malai RECIPE

Methi Matar Malai is a popular North Indian dish. As the name suggest it is a creamy gravy made with Methi ( Fenu greek) and Matar ( Green Peas ). The dish is fragrant and very delicious, as it uses the fresh ground spices.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup Methi leaves ( Fenu greek leaves)
  2. 1/2 cup fresh green Peas
  3. 1/2 cup milk
  4. 1 small Onion roughly chopped
  5. 1 green chilies
  6. 1/2 inch Ginger
  7. 6 Almonds ( soaked overnight or blanched)
  8. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  9. 5-6 black Pepper corn
  10. 3-4 Cloves
  11. small 2 piece of Cinnamon stick
  12. 2 tbsp Oil
  13. 1/2 cup cream

Instructions

  1. IN A GRINDER JAR ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 2 SMALL CINNEMON STICK, 6-7 PEPPER CORN, 3-4 CLOVES, AND GRIND IT INTO POWDER
  2. TRANSFER IN A BOWL, NOW ADD 6 ALMONDS, 1" GINGER,
  3. 1 SMALL ONION, 1 GREEN CHILLY, 2 TBSP WATER AND GRIND INTO PUREE. KEEP ASIDE.
  4. HEAT 1 TBSP OIL IN A PAN. ADD THE ONION, ALMOND PASTE AND SAUTE UNTIL THE PASTE LEAVES THE SIDES
  5. ADD 1 TSP OF THE FRESHLY GROUND SPICE POWDER AND MIX WELL. ADD 250 GM FENUGREEK LEAVES ( CHOPPED & WASHED)
  6. NOW STIR IN 1/2 CUP MILK TO THIS. COVER AND COOK FOR 3-4 MINUTES
  7. ADD SALT TO TASTE AND 1/2 CUP BOILED PEAS. MIX WELL
  8. ADD 1/2 CUP CHILLED CREAM, MIX WELL AND COOK FOR 1 MORE MINUTE AND PUT OFF THE FLAME
  9. ENJOY WITH ROTI, PARATHA OR NAAN
