The human body produces cholesterol naturally, which is used to build new cells, to digest food, to produce different hormones and also to make vitamin D. It is of two types – good cholesterol or HDL and Low density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol.
Bad cholesterol, also called LDL, can cause various types of heart diseases and eventually even heart attack. LDL in the body increases due to unhealthy eating habits, diabetes, liver or kidney disease or an under active thyroid gland. With the advice of the doctor, medication helps in reducing LDL.
